DJ or wedding band

Published by:

There are a few things you can count on at a wedding: there will be cake, there will be a bouquet toss, there will be an uncle Phil getting drunk and there will definitely be dancing. Now when it comes to dancing, the music needs to be just perfect because a wedding is the type of party that has a few generations in it and you really need to please everyone.

So once you’ve picked out the location and decided on the menu for the magical day, you also need to decide if you are going to hire a DJ or a band to handle the music.

On the one hand, the band is perfect because everyone loves live music and the mood is way better than the one a DJ is able to set. More than that, the band has loads of experience and they usually know what and how to sing in order to get everyone to dance.

I honestly love live music, but it drives me absolutely crazy when I listen to covers that are worse than the original song. Most wedding bands are great, but I would never like a live version of November Rain sung by anyone else than Axel Rose. When you get used to listening a song as performed by the original artist, you are bound to get disappointed by any other interpretation of it. This would be one of the main reasons why I would hire a DJ and not a wedding band.

One other thing that you should take into account when dealing with the music for the wedding is the type of songs you would like to listen to on your special night. You should definitely take into account that certain song requests will be in vain because no band is all – knowing. Uncle Phil may get angry at this point. In order to avoid that, we strongly recommend a DJ who, even if he doesn’t know the song uncle Phil requested, he has the ability to google and find it. It’s a win – win for everyone.

One other thing that comes as a downside of wedding bands is the fact that the band need to take breaks. It is impossible for them to keep playing indefinitely. The vocalist can surely not take that kind of effort, and neither do the other band members. They need to take a rest, have a sip of water and maybe a piece of cake at some point. This is the beauty of hiring a DJ. He has all the time in the world to take breaks. He only needs to be there to change the songs and you don’t need to worry that you will end up with bad music for ten minutes every two hours.

All in all, I strongly believe that a DJ would be a far better choice for any wedding.
